Use of Taguchi method for high energy ball milling of CaCO3

Abstract Taguchi’s method was applied to investigate the effect of main high energy ball milling (HEBM) parameters: time (MT), powder weight ratio (BPWR), and speed (MS) on CaCO 3 crystallite size. The settings HEBM parameters were determined by using L9 (3 ) orthogonal experiments array (OA). as-received milled powders characterized X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. size varied between 140 540 nm depending conditions. analysis variance (ANOVA) used find significance percentage contribution each parameter. It established that MT is most effective parameter followed MS BPWR. A confirmation test carried out with a 90% confidence level illustrate effectiveness Taguchi optimization method. optimum combination signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. Based S/N analysis, optimal conditions found 10 h, 600 revolutions per minute (rpm), BPWR 50:1.
